Human Design
What is Human Design?
Human Design is a system for understanding how you're built to make decisions and move through the world — put together by Ra Uru Hu in 1987 as a synthesis of Astrology, the I Ching, the Kabbalah's Tree of Life, the Hindu-Brahmin chakra system, and quantum physics. Whatever you make of the ingredients, what people actually use day to day is much simpler: a chart built from your exact birth data, telling you your Type, Strategy, Authority, and Profile.
The bodygraph
Your chart, not a horoscope
Unlike a sun-sign horoscope, a Human Design chart is calculated from the exact date, time, and place you were born — down to the minute, since the planetary positions it's built from shift constantly. The result is a bodygraph: nine Centers, connected by up to 36 Channels, activated through 64 Gates. A Center that's colored in is "defined" — energy you carry consistently. A Center left white is "undefined" — an area where you're naturally more open to, and influenced by, the people around you.
Type & strategy
The five types
Your Type is the single biggest factor in your chart, and each one comes with its own Strategy — the way that type is built to engage with the world with the least resistance.
Generator
~70%Strategy — Wait to respond
The most common type. Generators have consistent, sustainable energy for work they're genuinely responding to — the friction shows up when they initiate instead of waiting for something to respond to.
Manifesting Generator
included in the ~70% aboveStrategy — Wait to respond, then move fast
A Generator sub-type with the same sacral response mechanics, plus a capacity to skip steps and multi-track once something's confirmed as a yes.
Projector
~20%Strategy — Wait for the invitation
Built to guide and see systems clearly, not to grind. Projectors do best being recognized and invited in, rather than pushing their way into a role.
Manifestor
~9%Strategy — Inform before acting
Independent initiators — Manifestors are the type built to start things. Informing the people affected first, before acting, is what reduces the resistance they tend to meet.
Reflector
~1%Strategy — Wait a full lunar cycle
The rarest type, and fundamentally different from the other four — Reflectors sample and reflect the health of whatever environment they're in, and need real time (traditionally a lunar month) before a big decision settles.
Percentages are commonly-cited approximations, not exact figures — different Human Design sources round them slightly differently.
Decision-making
Authority
If Strategy is how you engage the world, Authority is how you're built to actually make decisions — where to look, inside yourself, for a real yes or no.
Emotional
Clarity arrives after a wave, not in the moment — the classic advice is to sleep on it.
Sacral
A gut-level yes/no response to what's directly in front of you, right now.
Splenic
A quiet, in-the-moment instinct — easy to miss if you're not used to listening for it.
Ego / Heart
Decisions tested against what you have the willpower and appetite to actually commit to.
Self-Projected
Clarity that shows up through talking it out loud, to someone or even to yourself.
Mental (Environmental)
Not an inner authority at all — clarity comes from the right sounding-board and the right setting.
Lunar
Unique to Reflectors — decisions settle over a full lunar cycle, not in a single sitting.

Profile
Your Profile is a pair of numbers from 1–6 (for example, a 4/6), drawn from your conscious and unconscious lines. It's often described as the role you're here to play — the lens Type and Strategy get expressed through. There are twelve Profiles in total, each with its own flavor.
